Endangered Languages and The Linguists Who Love Them
While the Whorfian hypothesis has been pretty thoroughly rejected as too simplistic, most cognitive anthropologists are comfortable with the idea that language, cognition, and culture are tied together in a feedback loop, each influencing the other. When one can conceptualize language this way, it is easy to see how each language that dies out takes a small but important piece of the human experience with it. It an increasingly globalized world, languages are dying at an every increasing rate; however, linguists aren't sitting idly by!
